JVP Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath has asked Minister of Justice Wijedasa Rajapaka to present in Parliament the reports of committees appointed to probe killing of prisoners in Welikada Prison.
Mr. Herath said in Parliament that the people in the country have a right to know recommendations and opinions the two committees appointed by the previous government and the present ‘yahapalana’ government regarding the killing of 27 prisoners in Welikada Prison on 9th November, 2012.
He said, “There is a board in front of the prison stating ‘prisoner s too are human beings’ but several were shot dead violating international human rights laws. People in the country wants to know what happened to them and what the two committees appointed to probe the deaths say,” said eh JVP Parliamentarian.
Minister of Justice Wijedasa Rajapaksa responding said the report of eh committee appointed during the previous government has no substance in it. He said the information that could be revealed to the public from the report appointed by this government would be published. He said the report ahs been sent to the IGP for further action and promised that the report would be presented to Parliament.
