
All staff officers of Uva Provincial Council have begun a token strike against the arbitrary decision of the Chief Minister of Uva PC Chamara Sampath Dasanayaka to sack the financial secretary of the Council who opposed his illegal financial moves.
There has been a deceitful attempt to collect money from all the contractors serving the Provincial Council for a tour to Italy undertaken by UNP Members except three of them and all members of the SLFP in the council. However, contractors had refused to contribute as they had not been paid for the work they had done for eh Council.
As such, the Chief Minister had attempted to get money from the fixed deposit of the Council. However, the financial secretary had opposed the move.
At the Council meeting held on the 21st JVP Councilor Samantha Vidyaratna has pointed out that using money in the fixed deposit would create a situation in which employees would not be able to pay their salaries and their festival allowances.
The Chief Minister angered that the Italian tour was on the rocks had sent a letter to the financial secretary through the Governor terminating her service.
