A senior of the Prime Minister’s Media Unit has informed all media heads to give the dialogue on the budget 2017 the highest available space to evade the attention of the masses from COPE report on the bond scam.
It is revealed that a list of recommendations has been made available for media institutions in which quoting clauses from the budget speech, preparing documentaries on development work carried out by the government within the last two years, giving more publicity to opening ceremonies, commencing a programme where intellectuals use statistics to tell the people about an economic ‘renaissance’ should be carried out. It has been instructed that such programmes should get priority in their medium.
It has been informed that if a Parliamentary debate on the COPE report is unavoidable after the two months long budget debate the programmes should be manipulated in the media during the interim period to draw the minimum attention of masses towards the COPE report but the dialogue on the budget should be continued.
Meanwhile, another report states that the ‘Imperial’ operation that planned obstructions against COPE report is to be taken forward to launch a propaganda project to boost the dialogue on budget proposals. Several UNP Parliamentarians who lost face in attempting to obstruct COPE report are heading the operation say sources.
