A country where people would be happy and comfortable would be definitely built said the Leader of the JVP Anura Dissanayaka. He said this at the 27th Commemoration of November Heroes held at Viharamahadevi Open Air Theatre yesterday (13th).
A large number of activists of the JVP, artistes and trade union representatives participated.
Delivering the commemorative speech the Leader of the JVP Anura Dissanayaka said, “We have gathered here today to discuss eh commemoration of the greatest people in a certain era of our country. We have to discuss about people who did not give up their objectives, aspirations and intentions in the face of death. We are commemorating today people who sacrificed their lives for the needs and objectives of the masses. We are discussing about more than 60,000 members of our party including Comrade Rohana Wijeweeera, the beloved founder of our party who paved the way for us and Members of the Political Bureau, the Central Committee, District Leaders, party organizers and activists who were brutally murdered 27 years ago by the vicious UNP regime that ruled the country at the time.
The rulers thought they could bury the intentions, aspirations and expectations of our comrades by murdering them. However, tens of thousands masses rallying with the party indicate despite our heroes were physically grabbed from us, their intentions, aspirations and the path they have shown to the masses cannot be cannot be obstructed. They are heroes who would be commemorated day by day, week by week with more vigour, love and affection for showing the correct path for the liberation of our country.”
He said, “We have gathered here today to commemorate the founder of our party Comrade Rohana Wijeweera, the General Secretary of our party then Comrade Upatissa Gamanayaka, comrades of the Political Bureau, Central Committee, District Committees, activists and supporters who sacrificed their lives 27 years ago.
A view expressed by Comrade Rohana Wijeweera at that time was, “We woke up early. Despite our waking up early, the sun doesn’t rise up early. However, our waking up early would be advantageous to us when the sun rises.”
We are gathered here today to commemorate our beloved comrades, who had been born during a very dark era, had wakened early and woke us up early, begun a massive struggle against darkness on behalf of light and departed early. Also, all those who have gathered here are those who awoke up early.
When majority in the society are immersed in deep sleep infused by capitalism, we all woke up early. We are moving forward to experience the new rays of light. We all are on the verge of experiencing the light of the dawn of Socialism we all aspired. We have taken the red flag to our hands and carried it for 27 long and tedious years to fulfill the objectives our comrades including Comrade Rohana Wijeweera wished for with their sacrifices. We are confident that we have reached the beginning of our victorious path they expected us to reach.”
