The critical conflict that has set off due to commencing Mahinda Rajapaksa’s political party with the leadership of former Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris has grown so wide that it has come to a stage where the serious division is being discussed in public.
Former ministers Pavithra Wanniarachchi and Kumar Welgama have opposed the move publicly while front line leaders in the joint opposition such as Janaka Bandara Tennekone, Vsudeva Nanayakkara, Dinesh Gunawardene and Bandula Gunawardene have taken a strong stand against the move. Meanwhile, a follow up has been made to find out the response of Mahinda associates in local government councils after the party was formed.
It is revealed that the party should have been formed with the leadership of a different leader other than that of G.L. Peiris. They have said making a person who is unable to meet any challenges has smashed their hopes of gaining power with a new political party.
Meanwhile, another source in Mahinda faction reveals that forming a new party is merely a publicity strategy but a move has been launched to bargain with Maithri.
