The Member of the COPE committee and Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera states the UNP group of MPs in COPE has recommended that Arjun Allosius and directors of Perpetual Treasuries Ltd. that earned illegal profits through the bond issue of the Central Bank should be arrested and legal action should be taken against them.
This decision has been taken at a special discussion of the COPE held yesterday (24th) and participated by UNP MPs representing COPE Messrs. Ajith P. Perera, Dr. Harsha de Silva, Sujeewa Senasinghe, Hector Appuhamy, Harshana Rajakaruna, Ashoka Abeysinghe, Ravindra Samaraweera, Wasantha Aluvihare, M. Haharoof and the MP from Sri Lanka Communist Party Chandrasiri Gajadeera.
At the meeting held yesterday the Chairman of COPE JVP Parliamentarian Sunil Handunneththi had walked away due to pressure from UNP MPs to alter the report from the Auditor General.
Meanwhile, the JVP states the UNP is engaged in an unsuccessful attempt to conceal the infamous bond scam carried out under the former Governor Arjun Mahendran.
The UNP is engaged in this unsuccessful attempt after the report compiled by the majority of COPE members was adopted with a majority vote.
The report by the majority members of COPE was compiled after a lengthy investigation on two bond auctions carried out under Arjun Mahendran was to be presented in Parliament today (25th). However, the UNP is trying its best to save the former Governor from the fraud by preparing a report contrary to the one prepared and passed by the majority members of COPE.
From the statement Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera made to the media yesterday it is evident that the UNP group has no other alternative but to sacrifice Arjun Allocius the son-in-law to save Arjun Mehendran, the father-in-law.
The JVP, Voice Against Corruption and other civil organizations have with documentary evidence have stated that both the father-in-law and the son-in-law are partners in the fraud and legal action should be taken against both.
