Legal action would be taken against the Minister of Health if the proposed national drug policy to regulate prices of medicines is not implemented immediately warns All Ceylon Medical Officers Association (ACMOA).
The President of ACMOA Dr. Jayantha Bandara says implementation of the National Medicine Regulatory Authority Bill passed in Parliament one and a half years ago is delayed coming out with various excuses. He further said prices of certain medicines have gone up sometimes by 100% due to the failure to implement the Bill. He said certain drug companies have arbitrarily increased the prices of drugs and medical equipment due to the absence of a systematic programme to regulate prices.
Hence, legal action would be taken against the Minister of Health if no action is taken to find solution for the issue emphasized Dr. Bandara.
