The two suspects who were arrested for hacking the official website of President Maithripala Sirisena and remanded were released on bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya today.
A 27-year-old youth and a 17-year-old schoolboy were taken into custody on Sunday and Monday (29) under the Computer Crimes Act on suspicion of hacking into the website of the President.
The 17-year-old student was released on two sureties of Rs. one million each while the 27-year-old suspect was released on cash bail of Rs. 25,000 with four sureties of Rs. one million each by the magistrate.
The website was breached on two consecutive days by the hacker who claimed responsibility for the attack as “The Sri Lankan Youth”. The message posted in Sinhala on the website demanded that the government reconsider its decision to hold the GCE A/L examinations in April since they clash with the traditional New Year.
