President Maithripala Sirisena has removed 13 stalwarts of the party who are members of the ‘joint opposition’ and has appointed 40 new electoral and district organizers for the SLFP. The move by the President as the President of the SLFP has been made before the SLFP Convention to be held in Kurunegala on 4th September.
16 Electoral Organizers and 24 District Organizers received their appointment letters from President Sirisena at the President’s Official Residence yesterday (17th).
According to media electoral organizers who have been removed are MPs Gamini Lokuge, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Keheliya Rambukwella, CB Ratnayake and Pavithra Wanniarachchi. Parliamentarians Sarath Kumara Gunaratna, Jagath Balasuriya, Udith Lokubandara and Upeksha Swarnamalee have also lost their positions as organizers.
