Two gymnasts are showing the healing power of sports by posing for a selfie during the 2016 Rio Olympics.
South Korea’s Lee Eun Ju and Hong Un Jong of North Korea were spotted chatting together while preparing to compete in Rio, and posed to take a friendly picture.
The simple photo at a women’s training session is poignant because gymnast Lee Eun-ju is from South Korea and her competitor, Hong Un Jong, is from North Korea.
The internet has praised the unifying power of the Olympic Games after gymnasts from North and South Korea were spotted taking a friendly selfie together.
In the picture, both women are smiling, while Eun Ju flashes a peace sign.
Relations are hostile between the two countries, which are technically at war. Lee, 17, and 27-year-old Hong both competed as individual qualifiers, with the games in Brazil being Lee’s first Olympics. Hong became North Korea’s first gymnast to win a medal at the Olympic Games when she took home the gold in vault in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
