The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed 5 cases against one Neville Wanniarachchi said to be the main body guard of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The cases were filed today (18th) for not declaring his assets for the five year period from 2010 to 2015 while holding the post of Major at Sri Lanka Army.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Chandana Kalansooriya noticed him to appear in Court on 28th September in connection with the five cases
Earlier Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya had ordered the FCID to launch a comprehensive probe into a series of alleged acts of fraud and corruption committed by Major Neville Wanniarachchi, Brigadier Damitha Ranasingha and Captain Tissa Wimalasena after it had been revealed that they had earned money fraudulently. They had all served as senior security personnel to the former President. Colombo Chief Magistrate granted approval to the CID to inspect 32 bank accounts and a further 47 accounts in financial institutions maintained under the names of the three Army officers.
