Europe’s top Olympics official Patrick Hickey was arrested on ticket-touting charges while nakedly fleeing to his son’s hotel room in Rio on Wednesday.
Police in Brazil investigating illegal Olympic ticket sales arrested the head of the European Olympic Committees, Irishman Patrick Hickey. Mr Hickey, 71, is suspected of being involved in a scheme to sell tickets for higher than their face value. Police estimate the potential profits of the alleged scheme at £2.4 million.
Hickey, who is president of both the Olympic Council of Ireland and the European Olympic Committee, was charged with conspiracy, ticket touting and ambush marketing, and has temporarily stepped down from all Games commitments.
