Journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda was abducted by members of SL Army intelligence, who had disguised themselves as LTTE members, this could be stated with responsibility as there is clear evidence to say so stated Deputy Solicitor General Sarath Jayamanna who represented the Attorney General in Supreme Court yesterday (29th).
The Deputy Solicitor General said this when two fundamental rights petitions filed by two members of SL Army Intelligence who have been remanded in connection with the disappearance of Prageeth Eknaligoda were heard yesterday.
Counsel Manohara de Silva, representing the petitioners, stated in Court that the petitioners were arrested and remanded without any reason violating their fundamental rights.
Deputy Solicitor General Sarath Jayamanna representing the AG responded stating that two members of Army Intelligence Morali Shavindaran and Nathan disguised as LTTE members had had connections with Mr. Prageeth Eknaligoda.
Those two and Mr. Eknaligoda had met at a land belonging to Mr. Eknaligoda at Habarana. Mr. Eknaligoda had vehemently criticized the former government and there is evidence that the two had taped Mr. Eknaligoda’s statements stated the Deputy Solicitor General.
Later, they met Mr. Eknaligoda in Colombo and had come to Girithale Army camp with several Army officers in a van and it is revealed that it was the last instant Mr. Eknaligoda was alive said eh Deputy Solicitor General.
The petition filed making the Army Commander, the Director of Army Intelligence and several others as respondents was heard by a bench that included the Chief Justice K. Sripawan, Justices of the Supreme Court Sisira Abrew and Upali Abeyratna.
