He would resign from Matara District SLFP Leadership says SLFP Matara District Parliamentarian Dullas Alahapperuma.
Mr. Dullas Alahapperuma lived in the USA for some time and with Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa’s victory at the 2005 presidential election he came back to the country and joined the SLFP. He was made a Member of Parliament by Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa and was appointed a cabinet minister in Mahinda Rajapaksa administration. Mr. Alahapperuma supported Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa at the last presidential election and after Mr. Rajapaksa’s defeat he represents the Mahinda faction of the SLFP.
Meanwhile, Maithri faction of the SLFP has taken steps to remove posts held in the SLFP and UPFA by Parliamentarians representing the Mahinda faction.
Political analysts speaking about the decision by Dullas Alahapperuma to resign from the leadership of the Matara District SLFP branch say it is to avoid any embarrassment and inconvenience he would have to confront if he is removed from the post of SLFP organizer of Matara District.
