National Child Protection Authority states an investigation would be carried out regarding a complaint received that an attempt had been made during the protest march organized by Mahinda faction of the SLFP to distort a child’s mind by getting him to shout inappropriate slogans which leads to abuse of the child.
The Authority states whether a child abuse had been committed could be determined only after an investigation and an investigation has already begun. It states getting children to participate in events that spread hate and anger affects their minds and could intimidate them.
Many UPFA representatives of local government councils were accused of child abuse during Mahinda Rajapaksa regime and many were arrested. Many of them still represent Mahinda faction while several also have joined the Maithri faction.
