The statement made by the Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella to media regarding evidence given by the senior officials of Central Bank in relation to the bond issue is a hindrance to the investigation being carried out by the Committee On Public Enterprises (COPE) states its Chairman Sunil Handunneththi and condemns the statement.
COPE Chairman JVP Parliamentarian Sunil Handunneththi pointed out in Parliament today (24th) several news items published in newspapers and opposed the move.
The Leader of the House Minister Lakshman Kiriella responding to responding to this didn’t state anything about what he had stated to the newspapers.
Despite Minister Kiriella stating that there are provisions in standing orders to summon journalists to COPE, the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said standing orders have to be amended to summon journalists.
The Chief Whip of eh Opposition Anura Dissanayaka, the Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayaka and COPE Member Bimal Rathnayaka also participated in the debate.
