The 17 year old student and the 31 year old person who was arrested first and were remanded on suspicion of the murder of girl child from Kotadeniyawa were released today by Minuwangoda magistrate D.A. Ruwanpathirana on a request by the CID.
Magistrate Ruwanpathirana said the manner the investigation had been carried out by the police was a issue even for the Court and investigations had to be handed over to the CID.
Attorney at Law Nimal Ranasinghe representing the student said, “The student was stripped at the police station and had been photographed. It too is a child abuse. It was done by the police that are expected to protect the law. The student’s rights have been violated. There is no evidenced against the student. The CID has stated so. It is confirmed by the DNA tests as well. The student’s future has been destroyed by the police. Why do they act so cussedly? Certain individuals in police service, who live on people’s taxes has made the judiciary a loin cloth to hide their nakedness. The way the student was arrested and how the police behaved the day he was released is startling. Even the mother was not aware that he would be released today. Why do they behave in such a manner?”
