The opening ceremony of CHOGM to be held at ‘Nelum Pokuna’ on 15th November and would last only four hours will cost the public Rs.50 million say sources. Another Rs.50 million would be spent for ‘Reflection of Sri Lanka’, a four-day expo and carnival starting from 13th at the ground adjacent to the National Craft Council in Battaramulla say these sources.
However, Secretary to the Ministry of Mass Media and Information, Charitha Herath says the total expenditure for the media operations of CHOGM cannot be stated until the event is over. He said CHOGM website did not cost the ministry Rs 15 million, as alleged by certain parties.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Mass Media and Information has hired global satellite and fibre network service provider, Globcast Africa, to be the official satellite service provider to cover CHOGM.
