Thousands representing workers, farmers, students and women organizations participated at the agitation held by the JVP today (24th) evening opposite Fort Railway Station. The agitation was held to oppose presenting the 2012 budget without fulfilling promises given in the 2011 budget and demanding a salary increase for the working masses that is proportionate to the spiraling cost of living.
Speaking to ‘Lankatruth’ the President of Inter Company Employees’ Union (ICEU) Wasanthe Samarasinghe said Rajapakse government is validating acts by the underworld and protecting them while not taking any step to provide relief to working people in the country and the public including farmers, students and women. He also said the government has taken moves that violate peace in the country.
Mr. Samarasinghe emphasized that Inter Company Employees Union would collaborate with the JVP to struggle to win victories for the working masses and added that the agitation programme would not stop until victories are achieved.
