President Mahinda Rajapakse says all measures would be taken to bring those responsible for the shooting at Mulleriyawa before the law. Speaking at a media conference held at Temple Trees today President Rajapakse said electoral system should be changed to prevent repetition of such occurrences.
President Rajapakse said two main suspects have fled to India and steps would be taken to apprehend them. He said a programme would be launched to seize all illegal weapons with various individuals and a scheme would be deployed to change personal bodyguards of politicians occasionally.
He said such incidents occur due to the present electoral system and his government would take measures to change the electoral system with the support of other political parties.
However, slain former parliamentarian and Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra’s sister and son accused President Rajapakse’s government for not taking measures to prevent the killing despite there was a conspiracy to kill Mr. Premachandra.
