Indian Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai has emphasized that the government should discuss with the TNA and a political solution for the national question should be reached soon. This was stressed when he met President Mahinda Rajapakse yesterday say sources.
The Indian Foreign Secretary, who was in the island on a three day visit, has stressed that the national question could be solved only after a dialogue with the TNA. Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai said
During his stay the Indian Foreign Minister raised the issues on fishing in the Gulf of Mannar and the Palk Bay and stressed that the India-Sri Lanka Joint Working Group on Fisheries should meet “as soon as possible” to sort out outstanding issues. He also visited various Indian-funded development projects, monitored the progress on the Kankesanthurai Harbour, the northern railway tracks and the housing project.
During his stay he also met Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Opposition United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
