The drought that prevailed in the North Central Province for months ended when Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts experienced heavy showers during the last few days. The Meteorology Department has predicted more rains across the country with the setting-in of the inter monsoon conditions.
Anuradhapura recorded a rainfall of 54.4 mm yesterday while Polonnaruwa had experienced a rainfall of 18 mm. Hydro catchment areas also experienced showers yesterday marking the improved weather conditions.
Meteorology Department states that thunder showers with short bursts of strong winds could be expected during early morning or evenings that lightening could occur even when there is no rain and warned the public to refrain from staying outdoors or using electronic equipment during thundershowers.
