License from SB for fake doctors

Minister of Higher Education has issued a gazette notification on 30th August stating that Malabe private medical school is a legal medical college that is authorized to issue MBBS certificates states Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA).

 

GMOA states according to the relevant gazette notification Malabe school should complete the necessary facilities needed within a month, However, two months have passed and no new facilities have been set up there nor conditions of the notification have been fulfilled. GMOA states authorities of the school have not been able to recruit academic and administrative staff and provide a proper plan for eh next five years. GMOA also states this institution cannot be accepted as a proper medical college due to split in courses of studies, lack of separate departments for anatomy, physiology, surgery and medicine, lack of qualified academic staff and unavailability of a teaching hospital. Prices of petrol, diesel & kerosene up

The government has increased the prices of petrol, diesel and kerosene oil with effect from midnight today (29th). The price of petrol has been increased by Rs.12.00 a liter while the price of diesel has been increased by Rs.8.00 a liter. The increase of the price of kerosene oil is Rs.10.00.

Full stop for ‘Mathata Thitha’; Liquor overflows in ‘tourist paradise’

The ‘Mathata Thitha’ concept of Dr. Percy Mahendra Rajapakse, who is entangled in the dream of converting the whole island into a tourist paradise, would be terminated next year. All excise acts and bills would be amended after the budget proposals for 2012 have been passed in Parliament say sources.

Accordingly, excise duty on foreign liquor would be completely abolished or minimized, new intoxicants that would entice foreigners would be introduced and measures would be taken to remove distance barriers on opening of liquor shops in close proximity to schools and religious places. ‘Railways’ flees commuters

The Department of Railways carries out a scheme of making unlawful profits by issuing unlimited number of tickets for 1st and 2nd class compartments in its long distance rail services during weekends and government holidays. Gaddafi’s son and one-time heir on the run

Moammar Gadhafi‘s son and one-time heir, Saif al-Islam, has escaped Libya into neighboring Niger, according to reports. Reports say he is trying to surrender to the International Criminal Court or is seeking refuge in a friendly African country.

Once considered a reformer, Saif had vowed to fight and die on Libyan soil, but now apparently wants to avoid the fate of his father and brother Mutassim, who were captured before dying in rebel custody. [Read more…]

9998 pass Korean language proficiency exam

9,998 of those who sat the Korean language proficiency test have passed the examination The minimum pass mark was set at 124 out of a total of 200. According to The Foreign Employment Bureau 44,732 persons sat for the examination while 34,734 failed to pass. [Read more…]

Govt. gambles with EPF money– ICEU

The government has gambled with funds of the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) and has lost says President of Inter Company Employees’ Union (ICEU) Wasanthe Samarasinghe. Speaking to the media Mr. Samarasinghe said the government used EPF funds to gamble on the Colombo Stock Exchange and by using it to boost value of shares of certain companies belonging to companies of its supporters. Company seizes state coconut estate

According to internal sources of the Ministry of Lands 48 acres of state owned coconut estate worth millions of rupees at Kandakuliya GS division in Puttalam District has been illegally seized by a private company. This is a very fertile coconut estate adjacent to the coast.

According to sources in the Ministry of Lands this has been revealed when investigations were carried out on information received by the ministry. The Ministry has taken measures to take legal action against the company.

Sources say lands in almost everywhere in the country have been seized by various individuals and specially politicians and many valuable lands are to be sold for foreigners. They point out already lands near the coast, wild parks and tanks have been seized by politicians and are to be sold for foreigners and foreign companies.
