Rice, the most senior diplomat of the U.S.A arrived in Libya
today. Rice will hold a landmark meeting with Libyan leader
Moammar Gadhafi. This is the first time, in more than half a
century, that a U.S. secretary of state is visiting Libya dubbed
by President Ronald Reagan of the USA as "the mad dog the Middle
East."
Rice and Gadhafi are
expected to meet in the Libyan leader's Bedouin tent he favors
for high profile meetings. In an interview with an Arabic news
agency last year Gadhafi had said, "I admire and am very proud
of the way she leans back and gives orders to the Arab leaders,"
and had added "I love her very much because she's a black woman
of African origin."
In Portugal, before
flying to Tripoli, Rice called her trip "a historic moment and
it is one that has come after a lot of difficulty," saying that
Libya "is a place that is changing and I want to discuss how
that change is taking place." |
