Hurricane Hanna devastates Haiti

136 people have been killed in Haiti by  hurricane 'Hanna' and the situation in the country is reported as disastrous, with cities flooded, roads destroyed and thousands of people surrounded by water and mud and without food or drinking water.

102 people have died in Artibonite area and Gonaives is cut off from the rest of the country say reports from Haiti. For four days, thousands of people have been stranded on the rooftops of their houses without enough drinking water or food, while rescue brigades are struggling to reach the most isolated areas by land.

After desperate appeals from President Rene Preval, aid has begun arriving in the country from Spain, Venezuela, Cuba, the United States and international agencies like the UN and Caritas.
