Actions
of a batch of Buddhist priests from JHU denied bail to Ven.
Pannala Pagnaloka Thero, who has been remanded for not appearing
in court for an inquiry on contempt of court by violating the
prevention of sound pollution act brought to the Parliament by
JHU.
Counselors for Ven. Pagnaloka Thero had made an application to
Supreme Court requesting bail for him and the relevant motion
was taken up today. When the three member bench led by Chief
Justice Sarath N. Silva entered court today at 11.40 the JHU
priests, who numbered more than a hundred, refused to stand and
respect the judges.
The Chief Justice pointed out that respecting the judges was
respecting the judiciary. The Chief Judge requested the defense
counselor to ask the priests to walk out of the court and then
come back. When the defense counselor made the request not a
single priest moved away from the court.
The Chief Justice took up the motion then and turned it down and
Ven. Pagnaloka Thero was re-remanded till 15th of this month. |
